Today is a great day in history, today is the day where people will change their habits of prejudice of physical differences. I believe it is an important part in American history. Just over fifty years ago there was the Civil Rights The Civil Rights movement marked a time in history where it showed the entire world that racism is disgusting and idiotic. There are people out there that I have met that are prejudice against all sorts of people. I believe that it will come to an end one day, one step at a time. I mean you’ve met the first African American President of the United States. So I believe that one day everyone will be able to live in harmony without prejudices.
The Civil Rights movement was most prominently lead by Martin Luther King Jr., and Malcolm X. They had different views MLK wanted it to be a peaceful and not violent on his people’s behalf, Malcolm X on the other hand wanted his people to fight back just as violently as the racist and prejudice people. The Civil Rights Movement was amazing and a great step forward to equality among all people of all races, shapes, and sizes. I still see people discriminating against others, against strangers. I want to live in a society where people don’t look down on others, for things that can’t be changed.
Racism has been a habit for as long as recorded history can remember since before Ancient times. I mean look at Hitler and his Holocaust, or what he called it as a “Racial Cleansing”, or President Andrew Jackson, he removed the American Indians from their land so the U.S. could achieve their “Manifest Destiny”. There are people today going against human rights to marriage, some people believe it is wrong for gay people to marry one another and I do not believe that government officials or even regular people should have a say in whom you wish to marry, it’s ridiculous to tell someone that you can’t marry the person you want to spend the rest of your life with.
These people in the world who are beautiful just the way they are, and I can’t seem to wrap my head around the fact that people are too ignorant to see that we all bleed red, we are all human beings. There are characteristics that make us all stand out, we are all equal in my eyes, why is it that others can’t seem to recognize the beauty in each and every one of us? I just hope in some point in Human history that people start to realize that we all have to come together and get along. I know that today’s society doesn’t work that way and that I am naïve to believe in all of this even if not a lot of people stand by me, but I sometimes wish that if we give up the pettiness of the world would it make it worse or better off?
This all has started a long time before I was born but sometimes I wish I could change it to help make it better. Do you think that people are the way they are because they were raised to be that way? Or do you think they become that way because of the influences of society? Sometimes I wonder whether or not this can be achieved a little, a lot, or not even at all. I hope that things will change for the better, because no one deserves to be called a freak or any bad names because I don’t believe that anyone should be left out for something that can’t be changed.
